Setting Frame Properties
When we left off our table looked like the one to the right.
This is where you will need the files in the zip that was on page one. Didn't download - this is your second chance click here to download . Be sure they are unzipped and in the folder with the saved htm that you are using with this tutorial.
Frames can have many properties, including size, color, borders, scrollbars, etc. In this section we will be adding the htm pages that each section of the frameset refer to and setting the properties. The properties icon is the one that the arrow is pointing to.
Setting Frame Properties
We will start with the top frame
Place your cursor in the top section of your table,
be sure that that section is blue
and then click on the properties icon.
Your screen should look like the one to the right(without the blue arrow).
Click on the file folder icon that the blue arrow is pointing to and then go to your file folder.
Adding file selection
Your screen should look like the image to the right,
except it will have your files in the window:
The zip file had an htm called top.htm
click on the top.htm,
Click on open

FRAME NAME BOX
You will be brought back to the first pop up screen
Type the word top in the blank row below the file name
For now leave the scrolling to automatic
and leave the margins set to the defaults
DO NOT CHECK THE NO RESIZE BOX
Click on the Other Properties tab
Setting Frame Properties
You can set the color of the frame border (for Netscape only)
I chose red which we will change later
You can predefine the height of your frame and the width
and you can decide if you want borders or not
For now leave the presets and leave the sizes blank
Click okay (see red arrow)
BEWARE DO NOT HIT THE OKAY THAT THE GREEN ARROW POINTS TO UNTIL YOU HAVE SET THE PROPERTIES FOR ALL FOUR FRAMES!!!
We now need to set the properties for the remaining three frames
Feel brave try it on your own by following these easy steps:
If you are not brave then click here for step by step
(this same page with name details changed)
- click on section you want to set (main, left and bottom remain)
Be sure it changes color.
- click the properties icon
- click on the file folder icon and find the corresponding files.
main = main.htm
left = left.htm
bottom = bottom.htm
- Name your frame - in the frame name box
main = main
left = left
bottom = bottom
- click on properties tab and set properties (I changed border color for each frame)
- be really brave and type a size into main - you can fix them later
- click on the no border for a frame.
- Click okay
When you are all done with the four frames then hit the okay that the green arrow is pointing to.
